Shopify Bundles: the limits that decide whether your bundles oversell
Updated 2026-10-11 · by Hieu Tran, written with AI agents and checked against the sources below
Shopify's free Shopify Bundles app builds a bundle from component products and works out the bundle's stock from theirs. That works well for simple fixed bundles. Its documented limits, and how it counts stock, explain most of the overselling stories.

The documented limits
Fixed bundles: up to 30 components. Dynamic bundles: up to 150.
Up to 2,000 units per component in a bundle.
Stock is tracked overall, not by location. If you ship from two places, a bundle can show as available while no single location has every component.
Sold on the Online Store, Shop, Shopify POS and headless storefronts.
Where overselling comes from
Multi-location stock, as above.
Components sold on their own and in several bundles at once: Shopify's own Fulfillment Network help warns this can delay inventory calculations and oversell during heavy demand.
Two bundle apps on the same products: when a merchant reported a bundle app had no effect on inventory, its developer pointed to a second bundle app already set up on the same products.
Mix-and-match or build-a-box bundles built with apps that don't reserve component stock.
A weekly check that catches it
Export component stock (Products → Export, with inventory) and your bundle definitions.
For each bundle, divide each component's stock by the quantity the bundle uses; the lowest is how many bundles you can really sell.
Compare that with the bundle's available quantity on your storefront. A bundle showing more than the lowest figure will oversell.
